The entire herb is sweetly aromatic--really a step above common catnip--and has an antiseptic, diaphoretic and expectorant influence. Flowers light blue, from 1 to 2 feet tall. Rare. Originating at the Hangzhou botanical garden in China, this is a unique strain of the much revered medicinal vine. This strain is really very different from the sweet, dainty, blue-green leaved Jiao-gu-lan that we offer under the name of Jiao-gu-lan, Japanese. This Hangzhou type is reddish leaved, very robust, with a strong climbing habit and succers (to hang onto the trellis) on the end of the tendrils.
