Woody perennial with ginseng-like leaves and white flowers giving way to the blue-black fruits. Rare in cultivation. Native to North Korea, northern China and Siberia. The root is the original and classic adaptogen, helping one adapt to stress of all kinds, including physical, environmental and emotional. The plant is perfectly cold hardy and will thrive in full sun and moist soil in the north, but prefers shade and moist soil in hotter, more southerly locations. Our Eleutheros are much less thorny than what a lot of people are used to seeing in an E. senticosus, which caused me to question their identity. So, I had them analyzed, and the results were that the significant Eleutheroside marker compounds were found in our cultivar at a high level of concentration, which put my mind to rest about the thorns. It's the medicine.
