Herbaceous perennial native to China and cold hardy to about 15 degrees F. Rare. The red part of the common name comes from the red coloration of the roots. The flowers themselves are large, heady racemes of violet to purple. This is a prime medicinal for increasing circulation of the blood. It is one of the finest of all sages. Plant prefers full sun to part shade and regular garden soil.  Organically grown potted plant.
