Family:  Geranium (Geraniaceae)
Evergreen mounding perennial native to South Africa and hardy to 25 degrees F.  The plant smells great  and is forgiving to the touch, a soft mound of leaves giving rise to a sparse crown of red-purple flowers spring through midsummer.  The fleshy root is a traditional Zulu remedy for treating upper respiratory infections, including bronchitis, sinusitis, sore throat, colds, flu and tuberculosis (TB).   Recent research is showing powerful anti-HIV effects.
