Tropical hardwood native to the Amazon basin.  Source of natural latex, which can be tapped from the mature trees and makes a substantial trade worldwide (read the book "One River" by Wade Davis, which gives the story of Dr. Richard Evans Schulte's amazonian botanizing vis a vis Hevea).  A beautiful potted plant for the solarium or a specimen tree for frost-free gardens and landscapes.  Bark whitish, flowers yellow, seeds very large and beautifully mottled.  Plant prefers deep, well-drained soil and sun to part shade.
