Best medicinal plant links and
friends we have met along the way.

  1. United plant savers - Non-profit grassroots group focusing on conservation of North American Medicinal Plants. Want to acknowledge the gift the plants have given you? Give these folks some $$$$. They use it well.
  2. JLHUDSON.com - An ethnobotanical catalog of seeds. The proprietors are dedicated seedspeople and their seeds perform very nicely. This is a seed company in the style you used to get in the 20's to the 50's, and it is one of the few that has endured into the 00's. I first got ahold of their catalog one summer just before a backpacking trip to hike up several local mountains. I carried the catalog with me and read it by the light of a campfire. When someone is willing to carry your catalog backpacking up two mountains, you know it must be good!
  3. Peaceful Valley - Definitely the place to find (unfortunately not certified organic) covercrop seed and (certified organic) organic soil amendments and fertilizers. The selection is huge, including materials for integrated pest management, books, farm tools and much much more.
  4. Michael Moore- A site with huge integrity. A huge collection of plant photos and downloadable reprints of classic Eclectic, Thomsonian, and Physio-medical books. A hugely important herb school. A huge man (and a beautiful woman behind the man). Michael Moore is the herbalist's herbalist. To sit in front of him is bliss. You can get all his books through the horizon herbs website (click back).
  5. StevenFoster.com- Museum quality photos of plants and the most trustworthy and in-depth herb information available anywhere. Steven's books never overstep the truth--the pinnacle of balanced reporting.
  6. Herbalgram.org- The journal of the American Botanical Council. This organization (and the very worthwhile magazine HerbalGram) is the link between medicinal herbs and the mainstream, and its a mighty strong bridge. Mark Blumenthal and his team have done more for herbs in America than any other entity. One of the somewhat grisly tasks they undertake (and with great gusto and professionalism, I might add),is that they debunk inaccurate and misleading reports about herbs in the media.
  7. MotherEarth News- popularized information on alternative lifestyle, homesteading and gardening. If you want to buy directions on a steam-powered doorbell, a hydroelectric weather vane, or a skyscraper to be built out of recycled plastic bottles, this might be a good place to look. Always amusing and often helpful, they've been around since the word "groovy" was first used to mean "cool and hip."
  8. Mountainroseherbs.com - the best place to go to get herbal sundries, from small packets of high quality certified organic dried herbs to tincture bottles, droppers, and salve tins. These folks have been around long enough to know the difference between cheapo stuff and quality, and they go for the quality every time.
  9. OMORGANICS.com- excellent spot to buy certified organic Ayurvedic herbs and especially their flagship product--certified organic tulsi tea. Check them out.
  10. Herbaltherapeutics.net - This is David Winston's homepage, with links to his excellent books on herbal therapeutics and also his various herbal enterprises. David's understanding of the use of herbs in treating the various organ systems is really unparalleled. This kind of herbal understanding is almost a thing of the past!
  11. Americanherbalist.com - The American Herbalist Guild (AHG) is the only professional organization of clinical herbalists in the US. The website is a valuable resource for those looking for a clinical herbalist in their area, and has information on how to become a member.
  12. herbal-ahp.org - A non-profit educational project founded by herbalist Roy Upton. The American Herbal Pharmacopoeia and Therapeutic Compendiums are exceptionally well-researched monographs on individual herbs. These have done much to update the pharmacopoeia of the United States. Richo (of Horizon Herbs) contributes to the crafting and professional revue of these monographs.
  13. ars-grin.gov/duke - Jim Duke is a plant researcher and ethnobotonist extraordinaire and a real entertaining ukelele player. I once heard him say that his motivation was to prove through science what we herbalists know to be true through tradition. His website goes a long way toward this, with links to the USDA database and articles and information about Jim's current classes and seminars.
  14. christopherhobbs.com - Christopher Hobbs comes from a long line of herbalists and plant enthusiasts--maybe that's why he seems to know more about herbs than any one person aught to be able to know. He's written, I think, 24,000 books and each one is better than the last. Check him out!
  15. lloyd.library.org - Founded by the Lloyd Brothers of the Lloyd Brother's Pharmacy, a historical and hugely successful manufacturer of herbal products. This is the world's premier reference library on eclectic and botanical medicine. The people who run this library are sweethearts and they can be very helpful finding rare texts for those oddball research projects so loved by herbalists.
  16. www.medherb.com - Paul Bergner's site is a wealth of information on the clinical use of herbs. Paul publishes the (very worthwhile) bi-monthly newsletter "Medical Herbalism" which is an exceptional resource for clinical herbalists. His site includes a downloadable "Cook's Physiomedical Dictionary".
  17. www.planetherbs.com - Michael is an herbal elder who is not old. His vigor shines through from the good health that is the result of practicing what he preaches! His website includes a downloadable version of Eli Jones' book on cancer, a wealth of information about herbal medicine, Michael's many excellent books, and also access to his (recommended) correspondence classes.
  18. http://www.desertbloomherbs.com - Herbs of the Southwest, custom formulas, essential oils, soaps and sundries.
  19. www.organicseed.com - Farm-direct certified organic vegetable seed from growers that know how to do it right, located in Williams, Oregon.
  20. gardenhere.com - information and links on home gardening.
