Amla* (Emblica officinalis) potted tree, organic--ON SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amla* (Emblica officinalis) potted tree, organic--ON SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!:

You have chosen a PLANT* (marked with a *), which means that it is short enough to fit in a Flat Rate Priority Mail box.  We can ship it to you for $11.90.  To make the most of your shipping dollars, feel free to choose up to 5 more PLANTS* (marked with a *).  They can be shipped along with this PLANT* for $14.90.  (The shipping may be more if you buy other things as well as plants.)

Amla (Emblica officinalis)
Deciduous tree.  Native to India and hardy to about 30 degrees F.  Protect from frost.  If leaves fall off, this is a normal seasonal occurrence.  Trees that are subjected to too much cold may die back to the root, and regrow from the root months later.  Do not prematurely discard Amla trees that have no leaves--this happens to them in nature!!!!
Amla trees are beautiful, with feathery-leaved branches and a holy presence.  Amla bears a fruit that is among the highest in vitamin C among all fruits worldwide.  This fruit is one of the ingredients of the GI fortifying formula known as Triphala, probably the most used and most useful and most well-known formula from the ayurvedic tradition.  This formula has a profound normalizing effect on the digestion, expels toxins from the body, and as such can create an ironclad foundation of health, where before there was a corroding cement slab.  I have fielded reactions from people taking this formula, their complaint being that it caused diarrhea, but actually, how do they think the toxins will otherwise leave their body?  Would they prefer the toxins to leave through their skin?  I think not.  Diarrhea means the formula is doing its work.
The plant prefers regular soil and water, sun to part shade, and does well at elevation, as long as it isn't too cold.  They do well in  pots, placed on the patio or in the greenhouse during the summer and brought in in the winter.

Arhat Fruit (Momordica grosvenori) (Siraitia grosvenorii) potted vine, organic
Arhat Fruit (Momordica grosvenori) (Siraitia grosvenorii) potted vine, organic:

You have chosen a TALL PLANT.  Please select the "TALL PLANTS Best Way" option at checkout.  We’ll figure the shipping (usually UPS) and contact you with the cost.

(Siraitia grosvenori, grosvenorii) (Luo-han-guo)
Family:  Cucumber (Cucurbitaceae)
Hardiness: about 20 degrees F.
Perennial dioecious vine native to southwestern China.  Cultivated in northern Kwangsi by the Miao-tze peoples who grow it in the mountain forests.  Rare in these parts, and one of the most desired cucurbits among collectors.  Like ginseng, this is one of the chinese herbs that tonifies the yin.  Household remedy for treating upper respiratory infection and gastric upset.  The medicine consists of the dried fruits.   The entire plant is gently pubescent, and the fruits are densely covered in down, ovoid or rounded and extremely sweet.  The leaves are somewhat heart shaped and entire, and the yellow flowers are somewhat atypical in shape for a cucurbit.  Soak seed overnight in warm water.  Sow in spring, in rich hills in the garden.  Provide trellis.  Traditional agricultural methods call for some shade in the cultivation of this unusual gourd, and cool/foggy conditions are well-tolerated. Organically Grown Potted Plant

Arnica chamissonis (Meadow Arnica)
Spreading, herbaceous perennial. Well-adapted to gardens at low elevation, this species bears multiple yellow flowers that can be readily dried and extracted in oil or alcohol. Arnica is irreplaceable in its efficacy for treating injury—prudent application helps prevent muscle strain and proves very effective for treating trauma of all kinds (external, internal and even emotional). The plant will thrive in part shade to full sun and prefers acid loam soils. Bark mulch is well-tolerated, and in the right conditions a few plants spaced a foot apart will develop into a dense, long-lived patch.

Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei koidzumi) (Tomorrow's Leaf) potted plant, organic
Family: Apiaceae
(HACHIJO-SOU, Tomorrow's Leaf)
Family:  Carrot (Apiaceae)
Hardiness:  To 20 degrees F.  Give warm and humid conditions.

Native to Hachijojima Island in Japan.  Perennial, high chlorophyll plant with yellow sap, unique among Angelicas due to its edibility and the presence of both B 12 and the floavonoids known as "chalcones."  Currently the herb is being used to treat gastric disorders, hepatitis, cancer, anemia and chronic fatigue.  However, you don't have to be sick to benefit from Ashitaba.  We consume the fresh stems of this plant as an invigorating and balancing raw food.  We do this daily.  When I cut up a stem with my little pocket knife, there in the greenhouse, and announce that I have it in hand, well, everybody within earshot comes running.  We're all addicted to the benefits of this plant.  It is the top panacea worldwide.  Plant can be grown in a moist, fertile, well-drained bed in the part sun to part shade.  They like it warm and moist and they don't want to be burned by too much sun--think coastal mist, not desert dryness.  We have our best plants in an open greenhouse with plenty of air circulation.  Basically they are protected from frost and cold nights by a single layer of plastic, and this seems ideal.  The plants may be naturalized outdoors in just the right conditions--no doubt--they grow well in the wild--but cultivating them outside their native habitat calls for some control, and greenhouse, shadehouse, sheltered bed, potted plant in good light (not indoors on the coffee table) or any other invention you can come up with to make them grow fast and thrive is really the way to go.  They are relatively robust and very fast growing in the right circumstances.  That's why they are called "tomorrow's leaf," because the leaf that you harvest today will grow back tomorrow.  So you harvest the plant on an ongoing basis and make it part of your daily food and you start feeling --- GREAT!  Many folks have reported difficulty starting these from seed.  If you haven't grown regular angelica from seed and gotten over that hump, then I find it a bit unlikely that you'll do well trying to grow ashitaba from seed--its somewhat more difficult than regular angelica.  And we get quite a few reports on non-germination on regular angelica, too.  With the angelicas, either you get 100% or zero.  Its like that.  You have to do it right.  So since its been such an issue, we've decided to offer these plants up for sale, so you don't have to try to sprout the seeds--its an easy way to get going with Ashitaba.  Good luck to you.  May the force be with you, so that you get a chance to put this force WITHIN you!  Richo

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)
Herbaceous perennial native to India and the middle east. One of the core medicines of Aurveda, Ashwagandha is a handsome plant of the Solanacea and thrives in regular garden soil in the full sun. The dried roots are the part used, as the aerial parts of the plant can be somewhat toxic if ingested. Ashwagandha will usually overwinter (especially if planted in well-drained soil with a sand mulch) if the winter temperatures do not descend lower than 20 degrees F. The plant dislikes a snow cover. Cultivation is similar to tomatoes, and in the autumn the plant produces bright red berries in decorative, inflated calyces. Dig the root before the ground freezes, wash it, and dry carefully. Small quantities of the ground, dried root added to food or taken with milk or ghee (see my book "Making Plant Medicine" for dosage information) will improve the core energy. It is not so much of a sexual stimulant as a builder of the foundations of good sex--tonification of the sexual organs and energy to climax.

Asphodel (Asphodelus ramosus)
Rare, tuberous, Aloe-like herbaceous perennial native to the shores of the Mediterranean. Hardy to 10 degrees F, possibly colder. Slow-growing but tenaceous, the plant awakens early in the spring, sending forth multiple, long, pointed, succulent leaves followed by the upright flowering plume, about as tall as red hot pokers but colored white with candy striped markings. They are a show-stopper, partly because they are so very pretty, and partly because folks simply don't know what they are. During the summer, the flowers give way to swollen seed capsules, light mahogany brown, which are handsome in their own way if you're into this sort of thing. The plant prefers full sun and a dryish exposure and is tolerant of salt and wind although the flowers are easily ruined by frost. This plant grows on you.

Herbaceous perennial native to Asia. The horticultural advantage is that the plant flowers very late in the autumn, presenting light-blue flowers at a time of year when this color is rather unusual. Also, the flowers are by far the largest I've seen on an aster, measuring over an inch across. The dried root is used in Chinese medicine to relieve chronic cough and expel phlegm. Easily grown plant prefers regular garden soil and full sun to part shade. These are indestructible.
