Hardiness: The plant will perform well in any garden in the summertime and is a good winter crop in maritime gardens or in the winter greenhouse, even if the greenhouse is unheated.

Chickweed, Yunnan (Stellaria yunnanensis) seeds, organic:
(Qian-zheng-wang-xian-cao)
Family: Pink (Caryophyllaceae)
Hardiness: 20° F
Tuberous perennial native to Southwestern China. The plant makes a complex mass of interlocked stems studded conspicuously with the white, starlike flowers that are similar in shape to our common chickweed but about three times larger. The tuberous roots (shown) of this wild Chinese medicinal are the part used. They are commonly cooked in soup, being both tasty and tonic. This is the kind of thing that makes deceased ethnobotonists sigh in their graves--2 plants from the same genus occurring on opposite sides of the world used by peoples for the same purpose--a veritable cross-cultural verification of herbal efficacy--a chickweed, if you will, used as a spring tonic in New York and in Kunming... Plant prefers part shade and moist ground. Sow seed in spring--fast germinator and easy to grow. 30 Seeds/pkt., Certified Organically Grown

Clover, Crimson (Trifolium incarnatum) seeds, organic:
(Trifolium incarnatum)
Fall or spring planted annual cover crop. Some of the advantages of Crimson clover are: Truly luxurious crimson blossoms; a tendency to produce a monotypic stand that discourages growth of weedy species (without itself becoming a pest); nitrogen fixation of about 150 pounds/acre; carbon-rich (builds soil). The herb is harmless and health-promoting when used fresh or dried as a tea. Crimson clover prefers cool weather and moist but well-drained soils. pH of about 6.5 is preferred. Crimson clover is somewhat shade tolerant and is often used as an intercrop in orchards and vineyards. Sown in the fall, the plants overwinter as small rosettes and then quickly spread in the spring. Sown in the spring, a good stand can still be obtained. 500 seeds/pkt certified organic

Clover, Mammoth Red (Trifolium pratense) seeds, organic:
Clover, Red (Red Clover) Trifolium pratense
Red clover is a biennial that flowers in the second year. In warm winter areas it may be sown in the fall for an overwintering cover, or in cold winter areas it may be sown in the spring or in the summer. The plant is powerfully effective for loosening poor, rocky or clay soils and for fixing atmospheric nitrogen in its roots and thus feeding crop plants after being turned under. One time we planted red clover in half our field and left the other half in perennial grasses. When the tractor guy plowed through the field he commented that the machinery dug inches deeper into the clover side--and that was after only 3 months of growth. Feed the soil and the soil will feed you...
Oh, and also, tea of dried red clover flowers is probably the most significant adjunct therapy for anyone suffering from cancer of any kind...
Organically grown 500 seeds/pkt.

Cocona (Solanum sessiflorum) seed
(Cubiyu, tupiro, topiro, cocanilla, lulo, turkey berry, peach tomato, Orinoco apple)
Family: Nightshade (Solanacea)
Hardiness: Protect from frost
Shrub to 6 feet tall native to the upper amazon. Not to be confused with the tree tomato (naranjilla), these are nonetheless somewhat similar. The herbaceous and hairy stem bears clusters of flowers that give way to the toothsome fruits. Sow and culture as per tomatoes, but if it gets cold where you are, severely prune the plants in the fall and bring them into the greenhouse or you will lose them. They do well in pots or half barrels. Plant prefers sun, well-drained soil and protection from the wind. 30 seeds/pkt open pollinated

Twining and vining perennial native to China. "Poor Man's Ginseng" builds chi and tonifys the blood. A fascinating climbing plant with bell-shaped blossoms. Watch out for gophers, these roots are tastier than carrots!

Coffee (Coffea arabica) seed:
Family: Madder (Rubiaceae)
Protect from frost.
Evergreen bush to small tree, native to Ethiopia. Protect from frost. The bushes are glossy-leaved and handsome, bearing white flowers that exude delicious aromas. These seeds are from the famous Hawaiian cultivar "Blue Mountain" (Kona), and they are recent and viable seeds. Sow warm, in warm greenhouse or under grow lights. Scarify lightly to break the dried sac that surrounds each seed, then plant 1 inch deep. Germination within 3 months, faster with bottom heat. Coffee prefers a warm and humid environment, and does best in mixed plantings on rolling ground, where it can be planted as an understory to larger trees. Coffee makes a very handsome indoor plant, greenhoused plant, or can be plated outdoors in the tropics. Plants live up to 100 years. 5 Seeds/pkt., Open Pollinated
